Pity wasn’t her calling,
resilience was.

Certainty wasn’t the future,
overcoming impossibles were.

Hope didn’t always exist,
faith always had.

Giving selflessly was admired,
a gift misunderstood.

Receiving wasn’t an option,
earning it was.

Hardships were just ripples,
meticulousness would wash them away.

Progress had to be for herself,
determination would be solo

A medly of flavorful masala,
unique from the status quo.

Control it
Hold it

Rolling the dice (Gamble) (Rambling?)

Ascendancy
Enough of
(Play off?)

Regulate
Not anymore
(Keeping score?)

Oversight
Not really, though
(As above, so below)

(Profound?)

Broken, hoping

Ohana (For Dr. Earl Bakken)

by Twinkle VanFleet

Twinkle VanFleet 2015 Bakken Invitation Award Honoree_1

Front and back

He validated the spirit
And it’s heart
And restored the breath
Of a nearing depart

Acknowledging the path
And it’s hope
Diversity rising
It’s a slippery slope

Catching the reason
Determination and light
In giving to others
The fire and flight

for…

Life, love, and empathy
We have to discuss
Drowning
Counting
On all of us

7, 8, 9
Losing time
Sharing
Your paradigm

Break down,
Nothing on me
Fight and fall,
Nope pain can’t stop she

Crazy, maybe, perception
Not really though
Trinity, affinity
Visions and missions to lead for

She’s rising,
They know she(‘s) flying
As above, so below
The gift of devising

Got you
Got us
Got me
superfluous

Honi; spirit and power
The honoring art
Ha; the breath of life
A spiritual kiss of the hearts

Who could have known
It wasn’t alone
Ohana means family
Family is home.

Awoken

Grand Universe by Antifan Real

She thinks she can make it now
She knows that there there’s no win or lose.
She thinks that the fight is a matter of mind,
She knows that we give up or choose.

She believes that pain is a matter of perception,
We hide ourselves in ache, loss and rejection
She thinks that she can move past the hell,
She knows she has his protection.

She heard the whispers and saw the descent,
She felt the flutter and witnessed the havoc
She thinks forever is in the palm of his hand,
She knows life is precious, tragic and magic.

She hid in the dark, safe from the violence,
She kept from the path that could lead to no return
She shrugged off the violations,
Yet still felt the burn.

She wore the brand and inclined her head,
She was obedient and gave obeisance
She came out of the silence,
And revoked public acquiescence.

She saw tomorrow through the light,
She saw beyond the material world
She felt the vibrations and breathed in time,
Awoken, as the universe whirled.

Flash Flood

Flash flood,
Almost could’ve.

Bled out,
Still hoping about.

High risk,
Twice amiss.

Damaged,
Let go.

Oh my!
What do ya know.
Smiling,
Whoa!

Wait!
“What do you mean?”
Flash Floods,
Just a bad dream.

Break down, shake down,
Advisement under care.
Back down, throw down,
Submission to despair.

Let down,
No one around,
Breathe!
3 abound.

Flash Flood,
Back into the blood.
Always there,
Forever loved.

Lost Inside a Memory

LOST INSIDE A MEMORY

by Twinkle VanFleet

CloudsofHope

LOST INSIDE A MEMORY, WANDERING HELPLESSLY IN THE PAST-

INNOCENT AND CONFUSED, GROWING UP WAS MUCH TOO FAST.

LIFE WAS IN THE FAST LANE, PEOPLE FALLING DOWN-

INFLUENCE CONTROLLING LIVES, TEMPTATIONS LURKED AROUND.

UNSURE ABOUT TOMORROW, HOW COULD I HAVE KNOWN-

I WAS JUST A GIRL, BUT SOMEDAY I’D BE GROWN.

REALITY INCURRED MANY CHOICES, THOSE I WOULD SOMEDAY MAKE-

CONSEQUENCES WERE SURE TO FOLLOW, UP ROADS WHICH I MIGHT TAKE.

TRAPPED WITHIN THE MEMORY, I SEE A LITTLE GIRL I ONCE KNEW-

SAFE AND CONTENT FROM TOMORROW, OUR FUTURE HAD NO CLUE.

I MOVED ON WITH ALL STRUGGLES, SHE REMAINS PERFECT AND PURE-

I WOULD BECOME WHO I AM, TUCKING AWAY MEMORIES OF HER.

FINDING MYSELF BACK IN REALITY, WHO KNOWS WHERE IT MIGHT BE-

YESTERDAY, A SOUL DIVIDED IN TWO- ONLY THEN THEY BOTH WERE ME.

Crushed

Heaven

Crushed
by Twinkle VanFleet

Crush
Do what we must

Splendiferous
Love is us

Hardship
Seemingly unjust

Pain
Body and soul

Faith
To feel whole

Loss
You lose

Gain
We choose

Survive
A bitter-sweet divide

Actions
Go forth

Implement
A forgiveness course

Internalize
Hush, hush

Onward,
Crushed.
