Just One More Step

By Twinkle VanFleet

Twinkle V and Baby Ozra 1997

My baby son and I- West Sacramento- Spring, 1997

I fight, you fight,
We fight together.
You fight, I fight,
We win forever.

“Just one more step, Mama!
Just one more step”
The little voice echoed,
Made it over the doorstep.

Let go, let go!
Neighbors gathered around,
She spread her wings,
The sticks hit the ground.

The little boy beamed,
In the crowd of praise.
Flying solo,
Because of him, she prayed.

I fight, you fight..
For that one more step!
You fought, I fought!
Haven’t stopped yet.

(Hook)
Step up, step down,
Step in, step out,
Step to, step from,
Just one more step Mama!
Just one more step!
Step it up, Step!
Just one more step Mama
Just one more step.

Just one

one

one

Just one more

(Chorus)
I fight, you fight
We fight together
You fight, I fight
We win forever

(Fight! we fightin’ it)

(Fight it)

(Just one more)

(All it takes)

(Just that one)

I fight, you fight..
For that one more step,
You fought, I fought
Haven’t stopped yet.

(Still fighting)

(Steppin’)

(You Steppin’)

(Just one more step, mine)

We haven’t stopped yet

17

By Twinkle Wood-VanFleet

For my husband Erik VanFleet

If 17 could last forever, my flight just left the ground-

Heading for my home town, young and summer bound.

If 17 might last forever, oh yes! That’s where I’d be-

Ssh! Can you feel that moment, the first time you laid eyes on me.

Listen! Can you hear the music? Would you have looked my way again?

Would the song still be playing, or ending just as friends?

If 17 could last forever, still at the river, in the sand?

Or strolling through Old Sac, while walking hand in hand.

Hey! Can you feel the summer time heat? June through hot August nights-

Our first night at Garcia’s Bends, together beneath the moonlight.

Oh! Can you feel that memory, as you first took me in your arms?

If that summer had just begun, would you still shower me with charms?

If 17 would last forever, could you have loved me in the end?

I just close my eyes and remember, I’m still 17 again.

Without hope,

We would have nothing to pray for-

Without faith,

We would have nothing to believe in,

Without life and death,

We would have nothing to look forward to-

Without God,

We would have been nothing at all.

Look At Us Now

LOOK AT US NOW

By Twinkle VanFleet

E and T October 26, 2013

Him and I, October 26, 2013.

To love is without judgement; you know this must be true-

No man can put asunder, forever- only you.

Only rarely did we struggle- until suddenly came at once,

But even after the fall, our love outlasted the punch.

You never had to prove to me- you always tried your best,

Your determination would bring us up- but no one would have guessed.

Tremendous is my faith in you- I’ve never been unsure,

I’ve never doubted your abilities, because i knew who you were.

Endlessly praying for your spirit-during the cold hard run,

Prayers would soon be answered, the challenges overcome.

Acknowledging determined ambitions- that were virtually always missed,

Accomplishments defended with pride- that some said couldn’t exist.

Content in regards to our future, my love for you- never in doubt,

Lips once quivering babbled words- will dwell in endless pout.

True love will never make judgements, trust and faith in the solemn vow-

Baby, did you know we would reach it- Te Amo, look at us now.

Crushed

Heaven

Crushed
by Twinkle VanFleet

Crush
Do what we must

Splendiferous
Love is us

Hardship
Seemingly unjust

Pain
Body and soul

Faith
To feel whole

Loss
You lose

Gain
We choose

Survive
A bitter-sweet divide

Actions
Go forth

Implement
A forgiveness course

Internalize
Hush, hush

Onward,
Crushed.

My Dearest Daddy and Anne Madeline | Poetry

Dedicated to 2 birthdays on 6/6. My Dad and my maternal Grandma.

My  Dearest Daddy

By Twinkle VanFleet

06/06 – 09/07/91

Twinkle_Annie_Dad

ON SEPTEMBER SEVENTH 1991,
I CLOSED YOUR EYES-
ALL I CAN SAY IS I LOVE YOU,
I CAN’T SAY GOODBYES.

I WISH YOU WOULDN’T HAVE LEFT US,
I PRAYED YOU WOULDN’T GO AWAY-
I WOULD HAVE TAKEN YOUR PAIN IN A MINUTE,
IF YOU COULD HAVE JUST BEEN OKAY.

JESUS CALLED ON YOU FOR A REASON,
ONE WE CAN’T YET UNDERSTAND-
HE TOOK YOUR PAIN AWAY FOREVER-
HE PUT YOU IN GODS HANDS.

NOW YOU CAN WALK DADDY
AND RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN-
YOUR BODY CAN’T HURT ANYMORE-
YOU’RE STILL 100% A MAN.

NO ONE CAN SAY ANY DIFFERENT,
SOME WERE ALSO WRONG,
BUT THEY ARE THE ONES TO BE JUDGED-
WHEN THAT DAY COMES ALONG.

I’M PROUD OF YOU DADDY,
YOU ALWAYS DID YOUR BEST,
OUR MEMORIES ARE FOREVER-
NOW WE LAY YOU DOWN TO REST.

SO DADDY WALK WITH MAMA,
YOUR BEAUTIFUL WIFE-
SHE’S LOVING YOU TO PIECES,
FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE.

EVERYTHING YOU TAUGHT ME,
I’LL KEEP DOING IT RIGHT,
LET ME ALWAYS BE THE TWINKLE-
IN MY DADDY’S EYES.

LETS CLOSE OUR OWN EYES AND MAKE A WISH,
FOR YOUR ETERNAL LIFE I CLOSE WITH THIS-

IMMORTALITY IS A TOTALITY OF TIME,
WITH NO BEGINNING OR END…
HEAVENS LIFE IS NEVER ENDING,
SO DADDY, ‘TIL WE MEET AGAIN.

Anne Madeline
by Twinkle VanFleet

06/06 – 10/23/87

SHE WAS SPECIAL AND WE ALL KNEW-
SHE GAVE SO MUCH LOVE, SHE’S A CHOSEN FEW.

NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN, SHE’LL BE WITH US FOREVER-
WE MUST MAKE HER HAPPY, KEEP OUR FAMILY TOGETHER.

BROTHERS AND SISTERS, NOW YOU ONLY HAVE EACH OTHER,
NEVER DRIFT APART- YOU HAD A BEAUTIFUL MOTHER.

SOMEONE IN HEAVEN NEEDED HER- MORE THAN US,
SO JESUS TOOK HER- WE MUST NOT FUSS.

JESUS TOOK YOU ON HIS RAINBOW TO HIS HEAVENLY HOME-
NOW YOU’RE AN ANGEL, BUT YOU’RE NOT ALONE.

ONE OF THESE DAYS- I CAN’T SAY WHEN-

I PROMISE YOU, GRANDMA-
WE’LL BE TOGETHER AGAIN.

Written for, and then publicly read at Sacramento Memorial Lawn. My Grandma was known as Anne Madeline, my sister’s name. When grandma passed away we learned her birth name was Anna Magdalena which is my daughter Kharisma’s, middle names. Since then we’ve learned there is another derivative as well.

Echoes

Echoes
by Twinkle VanFleet

She doesn’t mind taking the fall for you,
Just let her know what she’s taking it for,
So that when she’s confronted,
The blanket protects you more.

She doesn’t mind catching the shame,
To save your lovely face,
Just don’t let it come to her from the flip side,
Where she has no saving grace.

All it takes is one betrayal, my friends,
To remind us why we guard our heart
One deception, cost 10 loyalties
Be mindful in the choices that alter the dynamic art.

Be conscious that when it changes,
It’s never the same again,
Be cautious of the slips,
That penetrate like acid rain.

But know through each forgiveness,
Comes a new sense of owing,
Everything has a season,
Human nature keeps growing.

She knew from the beginning,
It would be part of the path,
To become wedged in circumstance,
And reap another’s wrath.

She knows there’s a bigger plan,
That sometimes ends in backfire,
Dangling between wonder and misconception,
So that you might acquire.

As we each make it through the storms of battle
She hopes there’s still some splendor,
In the fire once glowing splendiferously,
Which dimmed to a smoldering ember.

Mom
By Twinkle VanFleet

You Were The Arms That Held Me,
When Dreaming Kept Me Awake-

You Were The One Who Stood Beside Me,
When Growing Up Was Hard To Take.

You Were The One Who Encouraged Me,
To Be All I Could Be-

Sometimes, I Gave Up,
But Still, You Were There For Me.

And When You Thought You Had Failed,
I Was By Your Side-

Knowing There Are Many Choices,
You Chose One And Tried.

Thanks For Being My Friend,
You Are What All Moms Should Be-

I Love You, Mom,

Because Through It All-
You Were Loving Me.

I wish I…

I wish I…
by Twinkle VanFleet

I wish I may, I wish I might, give my life for my baby tonight,
I wish I could, I wish I had, the extra strength, for another new fight.

I wish I did, I wish I didn’t, know what’s to come, end or begin,
I wish I won’t, I wish I will, learn and grow, through this again.

I wish I knew, I wish I didn’t, all that it takes, to keep going with it,
I wish I felt, I wish I wouldn’t, not my daughter, let me take this.

I wish I had it, I wish she didn’t, so she could thrive, without fears,
I wish we do, I wish we will, have much more, many new years

I wish I can, and I will, carry my baby through her hardest nights,
I wish I may, I wish I might, give my life for my little girl tonight.

On This Day

Dedicated To The Marriage Of Don Marino And Melody Anne
April 18th 1998
Mr. and Mrs. Don Tresca

TODAY, YOU HAVE TAKEN HER,

TO BE YOUR LIFETIME WEDDED WIFE-

TO LOVE, HONOR AND CHERISH HER,

EVEN AFTER SOMEDAY TAKES HER LIFE.

TODAY, YOU HAVE PROMISED TO LOVE HIM,

UNTIL DEATH DO YOU PART-

AND TO LOVE HIM MORE TOMORROW,

AS THIS DAY- WITH ALL OF YOUR HEART.

TODAY- YOU HAVE JOINED TOGETHER,

FOR INFINITY MIGHT BE RIGHT NOW-

TODAY, TOMORROW AND FOREVER,

YOU HAVE TAKEN GOD’S SACRED VOW.

A NEW BEGINNING HAS STARTED TODAY,

BY MARRIAGE YOU ARE ONE-

MAY YOUR LOVE BE UNCONDITIONAL,

AND NEVER COME UNDONE.
